The H2Outdoor Instructor team are very excited to be adding SUP Boarding (Stand Up Paddle Boarding) to its activity programme and will be offering fun-filled sessions for both the beginner and those with more experience. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and we are very much looking forward to bringing this fantastic activity to our shores in North Devon.
Contemporary stand up paddle boarding is an offshoot of surfing but evidence suggests that it originated in Africa where it was common practice for individuals to stand on their canoes and use their paddle to propel themselves forwards. This method was used by warriors in an attempt to conduct stealth attacks. Our sessions at H2Outdoor won’t always be aimed at creating stealth attacks on various other water users, instead we will take you and your group to a sheltered water environment in stunning scenery where the instructors will teach the basics before going on a journey to explore the local coastline, sea cliffs and the various coves and beaches.
Our sessions will start with an introduction to SUP Boarding followed by a safety brief and instruction on getting on and off your SUP Board. Our qualified instructors will teach you some basic paddle strokes and get you started on your knees before moving on to the all important and often very amusing “Stand Up” technique. As you get more confident with paddling your board in the Stand Up position, your instructor will guide you further out to explore some of the best sections of coast this area has to offer. More advanced sessions are available on request.
We use a range of both inflatable and new polyurethane boards for our SUP sessions and have chosen our fleet for their stability and ease of paddling. Our paddles are all adjustable to enable us to get the right size paddle for the person and we spend some time at the start of every session to make sure everyone is happy and know how to use the equipment they have been given. All safety equipment and wetsuits are included in the price and our instructors can take pictures of your experience using our new Go Pro cameras.
